FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 4, 2017
YAKIMA, WA— The Victoria HarbourCats have no problem being ready for games, scoring first in all four games early in the season. Early offense was backed by strong relief work in a 6-2 win to take the rubber game of their three-game weekend series against the Yakima Valley Pippins.
Victoria opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning when shortstop Harry Shipley (Purdue) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and scored on an error.
They extended their lead with a three-run third, thanks to a bases-loaded balk committed by Pippins starter John Fuqua (VMI) followed by a two-run single by center fielder Ethan Lopez (Hawaii).
HarbourCats left-handed starter Ethan Skuija (UBC) battled through his outing, walking six batters in his 3.2 innings pitched, but held Yakima Valley to just one run in the fourth inning thanks in part to inducing double-plays in each of his first three innings.
Lopez collected his game-high third RBI on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that scored catcher Kekai Rios (Hawaii) to put Victoria ahead by a score of 5-1.
Right-handed reliever Noah Prewett (San Diego) pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing a run on four hits before righty Adam McKillican (UBC) took it the rest of the way, delivering three scoreless innings on three hits.
Kevin Collard (San Diego) delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning that scored Rios for the second time to cap the scoring in a 6-2 victory.
With the win, the HarbourCats take two out of three games in Yakima Valley and finish their season-opening road trip with a record of 3-1.
Prewett (1-0) picks up the win for the HarbourCats while left-handed starter John Fuqua took the loss (0-1) for Yakima Valley after allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Gates open at 5:00pm in advance of the 6:35pm first pitch to allow fans extra time to find their seats and soak in the atmosphere of Opening Night which will be full of pageantry and excitement on and off the field.
